We received transformational news in Person County yesterday with the that Microsoft Corporation has made a tremendous investment into our county. I've been pleased to see that the response to this news has been mostly positive.
Even though we don't know what the jobs and capital investment numbers are, I'd say we can feel pretty confident that an investment of this magnitude will not fall flat.
The investment was made through a purchase of a site that has been under development since 2014 and known as the Person County Mega Park. (The average timespan for a megasite to arrive at this point is 10 years, so this one is right on track!)
I'm very grateful to have been a part of 8 out of 10 years of that development process, and I personally want to recognize and congratulate the current and past board members of Person County Business and Industrial Center (PCBIC) who supported this project from its inception to its recent acquisition with great vision, dedication, and faith.
Those are the qualities that it takes to move a county forward over time.
I've said before that I have followed our city and county elected board meetings for the past 10 years.
One of my most favorite things that has happened in a city council meeting in a long time was the recent proclamation to recognize the contributions to our community from Mr. Tom Hill Clayton on the occasion of his 100th birthday.
I've attached the proclamation as a photo, but the gist of it is that Mr. Clayton was recognized and honored for his service to Roxboro and Person County over his lifetime - service which has included owning a successful business, being on the planning committee that formed Piedmont Technical Institute, now Piedmont Community College, and serving on several public and private boards and committees that accomplished milestone enhancements to our community.
Today, we have a small but boisterous group who seek to vilify the "Mr. Claytons" of the current era in Person County's development history, those who volunteer their time, wisdom, and talent for the betterment of the community and receive far worse than even a lack of recognition for their commitment, sometimes going so far as to being referred to as crooks.
Our county was built by men and women just like Mr. Clayton and just like those who tirelessly volunteer today.
Navigating the growth we're experiencing and looking to address future needs for Person County will continue to take knowledge, vision and dedication.
With just 3 days left to vote, I represent that I am your candidate with Experience, Vision, and Commitment.
Thank you for your support!
